  • The only one in Asia Pacific! CSRone Net Zero Coaching Strategy has been recognized internationally and won Taiwan’s first Sustainability Consulting Award

Environment Analyst, an international environmental think tank focusing on global environmental analysis and strategic solutions, officially announced the results of the "Sustainability Consulting Awards 2023" on June 28 (Wednesday) in Chicago, USA. The CSRone team won the "Net Zero Accelerator Award-SMEs" award, becoming the only professional sustainability counseling unit in Asia Pacific and the first in Taiwan to receive this honor. After CSRone won the "Most Pioneering CSR Support Enterprise 2023 – Taiwan" award from the international authoritative media "Wealth & Finance International" in May this year, it once again stood out from more than 50 world-renowned consulting firms with its many years of professional experience in accompanying and guiding clients and its industry scale influence. Amidst warm applause at the award ceremony, Kyra Woods, Climate and Energy Policy Advisor at the City of Chicago's Office of Climate and Environmental Equity, said when presenting the award that the judges highly recognized the CSRone team's outstanding performance in driving corporate organizational transformation and finding and providing solutions to help organizations achieve net-zero climate commitments. The pressure of institutional regulations issued globally is increasing day by day, and most corporate organizations around the world are "at a loss" in the issue of net-zero transformation. On the one hand, it is difficult to find suitable internal talents to solve the problems due to the intertwined and multi-dimensional test questions covering the three major sustainable fields of environment, society, and economic governance. On the other hand, in order to respond to these urgent and fast requirements and regulations as soon as possible, they are trapped in the dilemma of "rushing to get things done". Corporate organizations urgently need a "coaching team" with abundant knowledge and experience in sustainable development, including environment, economy, and organizational management and governance, to provide appropriate business transformation strategies and solutions. The international environmental think tank Environment Analyst holds the Sustainability Consulting Awards every year to recognize consulting firms that have provided strategic solutions for climate transition and achieved great and practical success. At the same time, it breaks away from the past practice of awarding awards to a single company and publicly shares consultants' strategic thinking and solutions in the field of sustainability issues, encouraging corporate organizations to review their own risk issues and practices from another perspective. As Taiwan's most influential sustainability consulting firm, CSRone has successfully accompanied dozens of well-known corporate organizations in Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region, including finance, oil, chemicals, healthcare, retail, and technology, in their journey towards the "net-zero transformation goal" over the past few years, and achieved benefits in business strategy and goal setting through comprehensive risk issue identification, a coaching mechanism composed of a team with diverse backgrounds, and appropriate methods and tools. "As a consulting firm focused on providing sustainable advice to corporate organizations, I am very pleased to receive this recognition at a time when the world is in urgent need of solutions to climate change and net-zero transition." CSRone founder and general manager Yan Defen said that the promotion of net-zero transition requires the efforts of people with different professional backgrounds, skills and roles. The core of the existence of consulting firms is to inject diverse perspectives and viewpoints into corporate organizations, expand the breadth of business perspectives, and deepen the depth of strategic actions. Consultant’s Insight: Avoid Blindly Following the Trend! Five Key Cores of Net Zero Transformation: Identify, Measure, Set, Transparent, Lead "We have entered an era of 'system crisis' and organizational transformation is inevitable. The timeline for the global net-zero emissions target is very clear, and the sustainable transformation of corporate organizations is accelerating the reversal of past traditional business models." CSRone Director Chen Jianyou, who was invited to the awards ceremony in Chicago, pointed out that in order to accelerate the effective net-zero transformation of corporate organizations, five key cores were proposed for reference. 【Identification】With limited resources, focus on climate risks that “actually” affect the core operations of enterprises As the trend of sustainable development rises, various risk issues are springing up. To prevent companies from getting lost in the ESG Alphabet soup and losing focus on the projects that need to be managed first, Chen Jianyou reminds companies to focus on key issues and set goals and management, which are absolutely important links in the sustainable management of corporate organizations. 【Measurement】Regular tracking to drive the best decision with metrics data It is recommended that in addition to regularly paying attention to the collection of information data, operating units should also focus on "data quality", set up working groups with specific goals, and incorporate net zero initiatives and performance into the scope of optimization, so that related strategies can have a basis to drive the best decisions. 【Settings】Vision setting, confirming the net zero push mode and setting ambitious goals Compared with the sustainability commitments, declarations and press releases on paper, stakeholders are more concerned about how the issues are properly managed and what substantive actions are taken to mitigate the impact and create positive impacts. Therefore, corporate organizations set clear short-, medium- and long-term quantitative goals, which can encourage the internal organization to promote or initiate relevant actions in a clear direction and can communicate more effectively with the outside world. 【Transparency】Information disclosure, regular public progress report and open feedback Working behind closed doors is not a good way to implement the net-zero transformation. Publicly disclosing the results of the promotion and generously collecting feedback for internal optimization and review can effectively help the organization avoid operational blind spots . However, during the team counseling process led by Chen Jianyou, it was also believed that the transparent information disclosed publicly does not refer to the much-publicized marketing propaganda, but rather information that "emphasizes facts (Verification)" and "balanced reporting (Balance)". 【Leading】Initiating value chain, establishing supply chain flexibility and expanding influence outward In the process of promoting climate strategy, the negotiation, communication and actions of corporate organizations in Category 3 will be the key link affecting the success of the net-zero transformation goal. To this end, it is recommended to gradually strengthen the negotiation with suppliers and contractors, drive the most critical operating partners in the value chain, and at the same time as giving back their own emission reduction benefits, they can also expand their influence and be closer to the vision of sustainable development goals such as social prosperity. 【References】 CSRone Sustainability Think Tank In 2013, E-Tech International launched Taiwan's first Chinese sustainable information convergence platform CSRone (https://csrone.com/), sharing the world's most comprehensive sustainable knowledge and information, analyzing and integrating Taiwan's overall sustainable ESG disclosure information and the Asia-Pacific region's Top 10 performance evaluation, and publishing analysis results and sharing the latest global sustainable ESG trends in March each year. • Good news! CSRone has achieved success in 10 years, and its sustainable transformation business strategy has been recognized by the British media

CSRone has been successful in promoting sustainable business strategy solutions. The international authoritative media "Wealth & Finance International" recently announced the winners of the "Ethical Finance Awards 2023". Among them, CSRone Sustainability Think Tank, relying on its years of professional counseling experience and influence, became the first sustainable professional counseling unit in Taiwan to win the honor of "Taiwan's Most Pioneering CSR Support Enterprise 2023 - Taiwan". This move not only shows Taiwan's outstanding achievements in the sustainable consulting industry, but also highlights that CSRone is a think tank that provides excellent solutions for corporate organizations. The impacts of climate change and global warming have become a common challenge facing humanity. In recent years, due to the frequent emergence of crises such as energy and resource shortages, food crises, ecological damage, geopolitics, and supply chain crises, "sustainable development" has become the best path and opportunity for global corporate organizations to respond to operational risks and explore new business models and markets. Financial institutions support the operation of the current and future global market system, and play a proactive and positive key role in achieving climate change. To this end, the global financial magazine "Wealth & Finance International" holds the "Ethical Finance Awards" every year to recognize corporate organizations that have demonstrated "ethical leadership, innovation and influence" in the financial and related industries. To ensure fairness and objectivity, the award selection process adopts a public voting and expert review and discussion method to decide the winner of the year. This year's industry scope covers banking, insurance, investment, financial planning and consulting units. Non-financial limited liability! Sustainable and ethical investing aims to integrate and expand the sustainable ecosystem As a key player in the global supply chain, Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission officially released the "Green Finance Action Plan 3.0" in September 2022. Through five major key points, including "Carbon Inventory of Financial Institutions", "Climate Risk Management", "Guidelines for the Recognition of Sustainable Economic Activities", "Promoting the Integration of ESG and Climate-Related Information" and "Strengthening Professional Training in Sustainable Finance", it aims to accelerate the sustainable transformation of Taiwan's financial and related industries, and respond to the expectations of global capital markets and diverse stakeholders for corporate organizations to perform in sustainable operations and ethics. Faced with increasingly stringent institutional regulations and operational pressures, Taiwanese corporate organizations urgently need a "think tank" with rich ESG knowledge and experience covering the environment, economy, organizational management and governance to provide appropriate business transformation strategies and solutions. As Taiwan's most influential sustainability consulting firm, CSRone has successfully accompanied dozens of well-known corporate organizations in Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region in the past few years, across the financial, petroleum, chemical, medical, retail technology and other industries, through a complete risk identification and counseling system, as well as appropriate methods and tools, to move towards sustainability, and help improve the quality of their ESG information disclosure and achieve business strategy and goal setting benefits. " Sustainable investment and ethical finance are not topics exclusive to the financial industry, but are the core anchors that guide all industries towards sustainable development goals. " CSRone Director Chen Jianyou pointed out that from the perspective of strategic consultants, sustainable finance is not a single issue, but an integrated ecosystem jointly established by financial institutions, corporate organizations, government agencies, and investors. By controlling funds, formulating financial-related policies and regulations such as capital flow input and release, it promotes the business operation transformation of corporate organizations. As a provider of "business strategy solutions" and "sustainable knowledge management", CSRone plays the role of "coach" in this integrated ecosystem. Through international and industry trend analysis, business and climate strategy goal setting, and stakeholder consultation, it enables the operation of this system to move more steadily towards sustainable development goals. "We are very honored to receive this international recognition, which is the best testimony to our dedication to sustainable strategy and consulting work over the past years." CSRone founder and general manager Yan Defen said that sustainable finance has become an important proposition for the business management of various organizations, and is also one of the important ways to implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). "For CRSone, more and more challenging work has just begun." Yan Defen promised that in the future, the consulting team of CSRone Sustainable Think Tank will continue to use the professional experience of "data driven" and "value creation" in the two major aspects to accompany more corporate organizations to join this global sustainable wave and create greater social and business value. 【References】 CSRone Sustainability Think Tank In 2013, E-Tec launched Taiwan's first Chinese sustainable information platform, CSRone ( https://csrone.com/ ), to share the world's most comprehensive sustainable knowledge and information, analyze and integrate Taiwan's overall sustainable ESG disclosure information and the Asia-Pacific region's Top 10 performance evaluation, and publish analysis results and share the latest global sustainable ESG trends in March each year. • Sustainability Think Tank's annual corporate sustainability progress report: Global carbon intelligence is hot! However, as many as 77% of companies have not conducted carbon footprint inventory

【Key Discovery】 1. 44.6% of Taiwanese companies subject to the new regulations have not yet published sustainability reports, and 2 of the top 100 companies in terms of revenue have not yet published sustainability reports. 2. The EPS and ROE performance of companies that publish sustainability reports have been better than the market for the past eight years 3. About 65.8% of companies have set up corporate sustainability committees on a regular basis, but 90% do not link compensation to performance. 4. Global "carbon intelligence" is popular, but more than 77% of Taiwanese companies have not conducted carbon footprint audits. 5. 97.3% of companies have established supplier management policies, but only 63.4% assess supply chain risks. The latest survey released by CSRone, a leading domestic sustainability think tank, and Xinyi College of the College of Business at National Chengchi University on March 24 showed that the number of sustainability reports published in Taiwan exceeded 800 for the first time in 2022. Of particular note is that two of Taiwan's top 100 companies by revenue still have not published sustainability reports. This analysis report mobilized nearly 50 researchers, took 6 months to analyze 946 indicators, and was officially released at the CSRone Sustainability Think Tank's annual event, the "9th Taiwan Sustainability Report Analysis Conference". The analysis conference was co-organized by CSRone Sustainability Think Tank, CITIC Sustainability Development Services Company, Xinyi College of the College of Commerce of National Chengchi University, and the Taiwan Institute of Sustainable Energy (TAISE). Strategic partners include Nanshan Life Insurance; cooperative partners include BSI Taiwan Branch, Cathay Life Insurance, Epson Taiwan, E.Sun Financial Holdings, Taiwan Cement, WritePath Cloud Translation, Yuanta Securities, etc. In addition, there are international partners such as CECP, Climate Group, and GRI for cross-border support. At the opening ceremony, CSRone Sustainable Think Tank founder and general manager Yan Defen said that in recent years, the disasters brought by climate change have increasingly manifested themselves in all aspects of life: geopolitics disrupts the layout of the supply chain, the imbalance of supply and demand in the energy market, and the rising inflation rate are impacting the economy at all levels. However, "enterprises build resilience in the midst of change and continue to move forward in the midst of change." Although crises often come uninvited, they are also the best opportunity to test the resilience of corporate organizations, turn crises into safety, and survive in desperate situations. [Key Finding 1] 44.6% of Taiwanese companies subject to the new regulations have not published sustainability reports, and 2 of the top 100 companies in terms of revenue have not yet published sustainability reports In order to build a sound sustainable development (ESG) ecosystem in Taiwan, the Financial Supervisory Commission officially announced the launch of the "Corporate Governance 3.0-Sustainable Development Blueprint" in 2020 and expanded the scope of compiling sustainable reports. All industries and organizations have felt this unstoppable "information disclosure wave". The research team collected 810 sustainability reports published by Taiwanese companies, colleges and universities, non-profit organizations, etc., and conducted in-depth analysis of 777 reports published by companies. The survey found that 90.3% of the reports were published by listed companies (64.6% for listed companies and 25.7% for OTC companies). During the collection period, the research team analyzed the top 100 companies in Taiwan by revenue and found that there were still 2 companies on the list that had not yet published their sustainability reports. On the other hand, according to statistics, as of the end of February 2022, there were 278 listed companies with a capital of 2 billion to 5 billion that were subject to the new regulations, but 124 of them had not yet published their sustainability reports, accounting for 44.6% of the companies in this capital range. It is particularly noteworthy that in October 2021, the Global Sustainability Reporting Institute (GRI) released the GRI Universal Standards 2021, which officially came into effect on January 1 this year. In the analysis of this year's research team, it was found that only 1.6% of companies (13 companies) took the lead in adapting to the new international framework standards and published sustainability reports, of which 87.6% completed third-party verification. [Key Finding 2] EPS and ROE performance of companies that publish sustainability reports have outperformed the market for eight consecutive years CSRone Sustainability Think Tank has been investigating corporate financial data for the eighth year, using financial indicators such as "Earnings Per Share (EPS)" and "Return on Equity (ROE)", which are common key investment decision indicators in the market, to analyze the relationship between Taiwan companies' publishing of sustainability reports and their financial performance. Through the chart data of the past three years, we can find that Taiwanese companies that publish sustainability reports have better EPS performance, and the gap with all companies is gradually widening; the ROE performance of this group has been higher than the market for many years. For listed companies that do not publish sustainability reports, their ROE and EPS performance have been lower than the market for 8 consecutive years. [Key Finding 3] 65.8% of companies routinely set up corporate sustainability committees, but 90% do not link compensation to performance In recent years, internationally renowned sustainability rating indicators have included the link between corporate executive compensation and ESG performance in their rating items in order to encourage companies to internalize sustainable development goals and accelerate related actions. Senior executives are encouraged to integrate ESG values to lead their teams while creating financial performance. Sustainability risk identification and management can effectively build a more resilient board governance structure. With the 2022 corporate governance assessment announcement including "linking director and manager performance evaluation with remuneration" as one of the observation indicators, this governance trend is gradually showing a trend in our country. This research survey found that among the 777 companies in Taiwan that published sustainability reports in 2022, as many as 65.8% (511 companies in total) have set up sustainability committees on a regular basis to promote sustainable actions through a "top-down" approach, and about 9.8% (76 companies in total) disclosed that they linked sustainable performance with compensation. CSRone Sustainability Think Tank believes that even though business managers are paying more and more attention to sustainable transformation issues and trends, they still need to carefully evaluate the methods of internal organizational changes and the necessity of setting up full-time personnel such as Chief Sustainability Officers (CSOs) to avoid companies losing their way and increasing operating costs while blindly chasing trends. [Key Finding 4] Global "Carbon Intelligence" is on the rise! 29% of Taiwanese companies responded to the net zero target, but 77.9% still have not conducted a carbon footprint inventory The climate crisis has been escalating in recent years, and the impact of climate events such as floods, droughts, forest fires, and blizzards has become increasingly severe. Even more frightening is that the global average temperature is rising at an unprecedented rate, and the risk of humanity facing an irreversible critical point is increasing. Faced with the eager expectations of the world to take climate action, many countries and companies have set "net-zero" or "carbon neutral" commitments. In March 2022, the Taiwan government also vowed to achieve the 2050 net-zero goal and proposed the "Taiwan 2050 Net-Zero Emissions Pathway Blueprint", which will implement a number of strategies such as improving energy efficiency and promoting the use of renewable energy to achieve the net-zero goal. In 2022, the research team disclosed the "carbon" related indicators published by Taiwanese companies for the first time. This year, the analysis researchers further observed and analyzed 777 sustainability reports. The analysis found that the proportion of companies mentioning "carbon neutrality (23.6%)", "carbon rights (12.6%)", and "internal carbon pricing (8.9%)" all showed an upward trend compared with the previous year, among which "carbon neutrality" had the highest mention rate. However, looking at the information disclosed by various companies, most companies that have disclosed carbon-related implementation results only account for 1.2% to 2.4%, and as many as 77.9% have not yet conducted a carbon footprint inventory. The research team also pointed out that as many as 229 reports (29.5%) in the analysis scope have responded to the net zero path set by government agencies, or pledged their own net zero goals and explained their measures in the report. Among the 229 reports, only 33.6% adopted the Science-Based Carbon Reduction Target (SBTi) to formulate carbon reduction paths and targets, indicating that most companies still lack specific plans for net zero emissions and carbon reduction actions. [Key Finding 5] 97.3% of companies have established supplier management policies, but only 63.4% assess supply chain risks With the rise of international carbon reduction trends, labor-capital relations, human rights protection and other issues, companies are gradually expanding and improving the sustainability policy requirements for suppliers to ensure that suppliers implement various goals such as carbon reduction and human rights management during the production process. According to statistics, 97.3% (756) of the 777 Taiwanese companies have established and disclosed supplier management policies, but only 63.4% (493) manage and evaluate supplier risks. Therefore, the importance of sustainable management of supply partners is increasing year by year, and companies must pay more attention to managing the potential risks of suppliers. 【2023 Ninth Taiwan Sustainability Report Analysis Conference News】

  • Return to glory! Taiwan regains the title of Asia Pacific Sustainability Ranking, Singapore falls to fifth place due to poor performance: 80% of companies have publicly disclosed net zero goals

Key findings Taiwan regains the title of Asia Pacific Sustainability Ranking, Singapore falls to fifth place due to poor performance Analysis of "Carbon Disclosure" in the Asia-Pacific Region: Taiwan is not making progress but regressing, and its "carbon neutrality" actions are at the bottom More than just climate slogans! Asia-Pacific companies refuse to just talk, 65% have publicly disclosed net zero targets According to the United Nations World Population Prospects report, the global population will officially exceed 8 billion in November 2022, and is expected to reach 8.5 billion in 2030. This is an "important milestone" in the history of human development, but it is also prompting governments of many countries to accelerate discussions on crises such as "climate disaster losses", "insufficient food reserves", and "energy supply and demand imbalance". CSRone, a leading sustainability think tank in Taiwan, and Xinyi College of National Chengchi University have published a white paper-level sustainability analysis report, "Taiwan and Asia-Pacific Sustainability Report Status and Trends," in March every year for 10 consecutive years. This year, the research team conducted an in-depth analysis and comparison of the sustainability practices of Asia-Pacific companies covering 10 countries. The results showed that Taiwan's sustainability performance has ranked in the top 3 for three consecutive years, and this year it has regained the top spot in the Asia-Pacific region. Unveil the winner of the competition. This corporate sustainability evaluation covers the public website sustainability information of the top 10 companies in 10 countries, including Taiwan, Japan, China, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, and Australia. This report has been listed as the most important ESG reference data by many domestic and foreign sustainability organizations, and was officially released on March 24 this year at the [2023 9th Taiwan Sustainability Report Analysis Conference] . Since 2018, the research team has referred to the Forbes 2022 Global 2,000 Survey and domestic databases to screen the sustainability reports of the corporate list, and referred to the experience of sustainability professional organizations and Asian companies in sustainability practices to establish three aspects of environment, society, and corporate governance (ESG), with a total of 10 major sustainability issues (corporate governance, energy conservation and carbon reduction, waste management, education and training, employee care, social investment, human rights, SDGs, water resources, and biodiversity) as analysis indicators. The "Sustainability Temperature Index" standard is used to evaluate the level of sustainability commitment of enterprises, with "mentioned" at 1 degree, "action" at 2 degrees, "performance" at 3 degrees, "target" at 4 degrees, and "improvement" at 5 degrees. The higher the index, the more complete the management actions for the issue. [Key Finding 1] Taiwan regains the title of Asia Pacific Sustainability Ranking, Singapore performs poorly and falls to fifth place In the results of this research and analysis, the top five countries in the 2022 Sustainability Temperature Index ranking of the 10 Asia-Pacific countries are: Taiwan (3.55), Malaysia (3.49), Thailand (3.43), South Korea (3.39), and Singapore (3.38). Among them, Malaysia ranked first in "corporate governance", "social investment" and "SDGs", while the evaluation results of many countries declined slightly. Compared with previous years, it has grown by 0.19, and its ranking in the Sustainability Temperature Index has also jumped significantly to the second place. What is striking is that Singapore, which topped the Sustainability Temperature Index last year, dropped to fifth place this year due to poor performance in "waste", "human rights" and "SDGs"; and Australia's performance has been declining year by year since 2020. It is particularly noteworthy that the research team included the two topics of "water resources" and "biodiversity" in the analysis process for the first time this year. Although Taiwan, an island country with rich biological resources, has regained the top spot in the Asia-Pacific region in terms of sustainability information disclosure, it was found that Taiwanese companies ranked last in the "biodiversity" information disclosure (2.00), indicating that Taiwanese companies still need to improve their management and attention to biodiversity. CSRone, a sustainable think tank, pointed out that as the attention paid to sustainable issues continues to rise, the issues of biodiversity and energy transition have also officially surfaced. It is recommended that companies make early arrangements to respond to the "Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD)" framework that has been hotly discussed and prepared for promulgation in the international community in recent years. [Key Finding 2] Analysis of "Carbon Disclosure" in the Asia-Pacific Region: Taiwan is not making progress but regressing, and its "Carbon Neutrality" actions are at the bottom In January 2023, the Taiwan Legislative Yuan passed the Climate Change Response Act, which officially enshrined the 2050 net-zero emissions target and announced the launch of a carbon fee collection mechanism. In order to further understand the response of companies in the Asia-Pacific region to net-zero emissions, the research team specifically targeted four carbon disclosure indicators: "internal carbon pricing information", "carbon trading information", "carbon neutrality information" and "carbon rights information" to identify the information response and disclosure of Asia-Pacific companies on carbon issues. The analysis and research pointed out that the top ten companies in the Asia-Pacific countries have paid more and more attention to "internal carbon pricing information", "carbon neutrality information" and "carbon rights information" year by year, with the growth rate exceeding 10%. If we focus on the top ten companies in Taiwan in terms of the disclosure of the four carbon information, we will find that while corporate organizations in various countries are actively communicating carbon management actions, Taiwan's ranking in the disclosure of "internal carbon pricing information (60%)" and "carbon trading information (10%)" has declined compared to the previous year. CSRone, a sustainable think tank, said that "carbon management" has become the most pressing issue and challenge facing Taiwanese corporate organizations in recent years. In addition to truly implementing carbon strategy actions, it is recommended that companies need to create an important cornerstone for promoting the "climate wave" through open and transparent information disclosure, and demonstrate their determination to transform to the market and stakeholders. [Key Finding 3] More than just climate slogans! Asia-Pacific companies refuse to just talk, 65% have publicly disclosed net zero targets For the first time this year, the research team conducted an in-depth analysis of the current status of companies in the 10 Asia-Pacific countries in disclosing net zero targets in their reports and found that during the data review period, a total of 66 companies (65.6%) had disclosed net zero targets in their sustainability reports. It is worth mentioning that 100% of Malaysian companies disclosed net zero targets, followed by Singapore in second place (90%), Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, and Australia tied for third place (80%), while the disclosure ratios of Hong Kong, India, and China were less than 50%, and only 2 companies in China disclosed. CSRone believes that as the United Nations and various governments are targeting the development trend of "greenwashing" and formulating review clauses, the "climate commitments" announced by corporate organizations will be magnified and examined one by one. It is recommended that companies stick to the organizational vision (purpose), accurately define goals, implementation scope and direction, and regularly review the achievement of the overview and publicly disclose the substantive content of the actions, so as to meet the needs of increasingly diverse stakeholders. [Appendix: List of the top 10 companies in 10 Asian countries] Note 1: Due to the failure of the website of India Oil & Natural Gas, its report could not be obtained, so 9 companies were analyzed in India in 2022. Note 2: In 2022, only 7 Malaysian companies were included in the Forbes 2000 list. 【2023 9th Taiwan Sustainability Report Analysis Conference: Marching Forward】 Forum time: March 24, 2023 (Friday) 9:00 – 17:00 Forum information: https://csrone.com/events/896

  • The first Asian Low Carbon Building Forum brought together more than 100 building industry experts to discuss new opportunities for sustainable building

In March this year, the Taiwan government officially issued the "Net Zero Emissions Pathway," announcing that Taiwan has officially embarked on the path of net zero transformation. It specifically stipulates that by 2050, all new buildings and more than 85% of existing buildings must achieve the "near-zero carbon building target." Driven by international trends and domestic regulations, the net zero target and transformation strategy of the construction industry are imminent. To this end, CSRone Sustainability Think Tank, together with the Taiwan Green Leaders Association, Business Council for Sustainability Development (BCSD) and other organizations, focused on the transformation of the construction industry and energy-saving solutions, and jointly held the first "2022 Asia Low Carbon Building Forum" on December 13 (Tuesday). More than 100 key leaders of the construction-related industries attended the forum, and experts from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and other countries gathered to discuss low-carbon and net-zero acceleration solutions, laying the foundation for Asia-Pacific sustainability for Taiwan's low-carbon building industry. The "Global Construction Industry Carbon Emissions Summary" was published at COP27, which just ended in November this year. It mentioned that carbon emissions in the operation phase of buildings in 2021 hit a record high. Building carbon emissions must be considered throughout their life cycle, including reducing the embodied carbon in building materials and guiding materials towards a circular economy. The government also needs to invest in the development of energy-saving design and low-carbon sustainable buildings, which closely echoes the three major topics of this forum. Net Zero in Progress: 20% of companies disclosed three-category audits, but most still have not set carbon reduction targets For the first time, CSRone Sustainability Think Tank analyzed the three major industries of "cement, steel, and construction" and published "The Current Low-Carbon Status and Outlook of Taiwan's Construction Industry". It used the 52 latest construction-related sustainability reports published as of the end of November 2022 as the main analysis target, and referred to the four core disclosure elements of "Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures" (TCFD) "governance, strategy, risk management, indicators and goals" to further explore the current situation of the industry. The research team found in the survey that "climate change" has become a major risk for the upstream and downstream of the construction industry, and 20% of the companies in the construction industry have conducted three-way inspections on greenhouse gases. In addition, in the "Indicators and Goals" disclosure project overview, the three major industries have not yet fully set short-, medium- and long-term goals for net zero carbon reduction by 2050. Chen Houru, vice president of operations at CSRone Sustainability Think Tank, reminded that companies can use the relevant tools and suggestions of the international "Science Based Targeted Initiative" (SBTi) to set their own carbon reduction goals, and formulate clear strategies and action plans based on the actual operation situation to avoid falling into greenwashing disputes and triggering operational crises. Net-zero future: A conversation on low-carbon buildings across Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan, building a net-zero strategy in three major areas For construction companies, establishing a net zero strategy starts from the entire life cycle of the building, and carbon reduction strategies are implemented through three major aspects: "design", "daily operations" and "renewable energy inside and outside the site". Chen Zhongren, general manager of SSDC Chengyu Green Building Design Consulting Company, mentioned that the building structure accounts for more than half of the building's embodied carbon emissions. There is no absolute answer to how to reduce structural carbon emissions. For example, increasing the proportion of blast furnace cement used, increasing the proportion of recycled steel in steel structures, or using low-carbon green cement are all ways. Delta Electronics used its self-built Tainan plant in 2006 as the first green building as an example, and explained that as of 2022, Delta Electronics has accumulated 32 green buildings and is actively promoting green building experience to the society, including low-carbon energy solutions and energy storage system applications. Zhang Zhaoxian, business director of the Industrial Technology Research Institute's Industry-Academia Service Center, explained how new and old residential and commercial buildings can reduce carbon emissions from three major aspects, analyzed the government's net zero emission-related policies, and used the Shalun Green Energy Technology Demonstration Site, which won the 2022 Global Construction Excellence Award-Industrial Building Gold Award, as an example to demonstrate the application of energy-saving, energy storage, and energy creation technologies. Three international green building experts discussed policies and low-carbon building cases in different regions from an Asian perspective. Architect Lin Zhanglian used his classic work, Shalun Smart Green Energy Circular Residential Park, to explain from a design perspective how to create the world's first zero-waste, zero-pollution, building material recyclable residential park. Professor Zou Jingyu, a highly respected anti-evil hero and architectural expert in Hong Kong and China who found the transmission pathway of respiratory infectious diseases in buildings in 2004, introduced the achievements of Hong Kong's low-carbon buildings and his latest research content. His main research areas include sustainable building design and urban planning, performance-based building design simulation, urban energy consumption model, green buildings and computer-aided design. Professor Wang Caiqiang explained the green building master plan in Singapore's Green Development Blueprint 2030. The three goals are "80% of buildings are green buildings before 2030", "80% of new buildings are super low energy (SLE) buildings from 2030", and "the energy efficiency of the best green buildings will be improved by 80% by 2030". He also used the SDE4 net-zero building of the National University of Singapore to further analyze its design, energy conservation and renewable energy strategies that respond to tropical climates. It is the first net-zero energy building in Southeast Asia. Under the trend of sustainable development and the expectations and pressure of net-zero transformation, the "2022 Asian Low Carbon Building Forum" is an opportunity for Taiwan's construction industry to gather change. Through the industry analysis perspectives of sustainable consultants, rich experience sharing and policy analysis by Taiwan's industry leaders and Asian experts and scholars, it provides sustainable solutions for Taiwan's low-carbon building industry and jointly looks forward to new business opportunities for sustainable buildings in Asia. 【About CSRone Sustainability Think Tank】 In 2013, the International Business Group of Yide officially launched Taiwan's first sustainable information convergence platform CSRone (https://csrone.com/), sharing the world's most complete Chinese sustainable information.
